Regular Grooming For Health Print E-mail

It is reccommended that your dog be groomed every 4 to 6 weeks. This is not done for the profits, there is far more to it than that. Lack of grooming can definitely affect the state of your dog’s health.

Here is why:

1.       Dog’s need to pant to cool off in the summer causing the air to circulate around and through their pads. Long hair and matting causes the dogs to lose this ability to keep cool.

2.      Crust in the corner of the eyes causes sores that can lead to your pet’s discomfort. These sores can be seen after removing the thick crust during grooming.

3.      Long overgrown nails force your dog to walk on the sides of the pads and the heels, causing pain and discomfort, contributing to arthritis in hips and legs.

4.      Matted hair pulls and causes bruising on your pet’s skin, causing a great deal of discomfort and pain!

5.      Your dog’s ears have hair deep in the canal that has to be removed every groom otherwise they can become inflamed and infected.

6.      Removing hair from your dog’s private parts is just good hygiene. This removes the chance of stool being stuck to the hair and being brought into the house.

7.      Dogs have skin and hair and after a bath the oil comes back into the coat in a few days, so regular bathing will not harm them. Bathing your dog first without combing tightens any mats your pet may have. Your groomer may have to shave your pet very short to remove the matting.

8.      When brushing your dog’s coat, brush down to the skin and always against the grain, this done on a regular basis will prevent mats from forming and you will have a pet with a shiny healthy coat.
